Anyone invest into a medium format camera?

New or used, have you bought one?  A friend of mine picked up one used and he got it for very reasonable price.  Now my only concern is the glass.  Even with our DSLRs or Mirrorless cameras, that is where the cost picks up quick.

Just making some small talk, if you did get a medium format camera, for your shooting, did you find it to be everything you had hoped for?

G'day , Tim ,

Are you referring to a medium-format for film , or a digital medium format camera ?

Several years ago I got into film-based medium format ( Mamiya RB67 ) and have not looked back .  Enjoy every moment I spend with it .  Certainly was everything I hoped for .  Quality, versatility , . . . .

Not everybody in the medium format fraternity likes the bulk or weight of the RB67 ,  because honestly it is one of the larger, heavier cameras in that niche ,  and it only shoots 10 frames per roll ,  whereas many other medium format film cameras shoot slightly smaller images (6x6 aand 6x4.5 cm)  and get 12 and 16 frames per roll , respectively .  Don't know what way you're inclined .

I have toyed with a digital Fujifilm medium format camera in a shop and found it to be quite impressive  in it's feel and handling aspects .  But I don't feel inclined to want to rush out and buy one, because my current DSLR  is more than up to my needs for digital shooting .

I'm happy where I'm at.  And if you think the lenses are expensive for DSLRs or Mirrorless, wait till you see the cost of the medium format glass.

Medium format is usually very specific use (besides film, because it's on the cheap end).

If you need a 100 mp Blad, it's usually for product/commercial.

My neighbor who is a doctor, who I swear has a Phase One camera, not because he needs it for 'very specific use', but because he can afford it.  His daily driver car is McLaren if that tells you anything.
