What other websites do you use for photosharing?

13 years 1 day ago #63337 by Cyber geek
I've tried flickr but my photos never got any views or comments. Seems like unless you already know a dozen people on there, or you just spam people with your links, there's no way to generate discussion.

Deviant Art is mostly for people who like to play with Photoshop filters, and has the same problem as flickr.

Anyone have any other useful sites for generating discussion and sharing photos?

You have to remember the larger the community the more networking you have to do to get noticed. On flickr and Deviant Art the communities are massive and thus there is a lot of work on there - so if getting views and results out of it are your intention then you have to put the ground work in.
Find some interesting (and active) groups to join. Give you images titles and also write about them below - give your viewers something to search for and something to read when they see your image.

I have a Flickr account (used to have a Pro account but let it lapse) & I don't have any problems getting views....Now I have Zenfolio & unlike Flickr, I have to direct people to it...You might put a link to your Flickr account under your signature on posts. People will use it to check out your photostream...Also, as has already been said, join some of the forums that intrest you there as well...

I have a pro account in Flickr and have lots of views, comments and invitations to join groups. There's my Zenfolio webpage which is dedicated just for weddings; twitter and of course 2 Facebook fan pages. One for weddings and the other one everything else (Photography, of course).

Being a pro photog you want your work to be out there. Never know who's watching and what business could bring you. Just today I was contacted by American Express Leisure and travel because they saw some photos in my Flickr account and want to use them in a publication. Lets see if we can work something.

I knew Devian art years ago, didn't know now you could share photos there. I'll check it out.

Saludos!!!

Well I just post some photos on forums, and I have my site in my signature. If people are interested they will look, if they arent they will look. I try to look at one site from peoples sinatures everyday just to see what they are doing. I also tend to look at new members to see what they are shooting with.

This site is picking up steam for that sort of thing. For actual displaying i use zenfolio. Flickr is turned into a site for teenagers IMO.

If you are looking for feedback, I have a small forum where new enthusiasts and former students hang out. It's not real busy, but we do have a Ps guru for any editing questions.

As for posting your work online, beware of the Terms of Service. Often times they can claim copyright. ASMP, a non-profit group who looks out for photographer's rights recommends Moby Picture:

www.mobypicture.com/

You can then link your work to other sites for posting. And always make it clear that the image is copyrighted with a stamp. Your name, the year and the copyright symbol will do.

So true, this is becoming the only photo site that I make the time for these days. Then again I don't visit many to begin with.

I had a Photobucket account, but I only use it for family stuff these days.

I still keep my flickr account due to a shortage of time to make any changes, I think flickr is pretty good for cheap storage. www.flickr.com/photos/mcbeth_photography/

It is what it is.
