Need some gimbal advice

3 years 10 months ago #689810 by OBY23
Hello all,
I am looking for some gimbal suggestions.  I would like to keep the cost in the sub $300.00 range if possible.  So far I have looked (electronically) at most everything I can find and come up confused.  The primary use will be wildlife and bird photos.  My longest lens is the Tamron 100 to 400-so nothing super long.  The SLIK looks interesting as does the Jobu jr and a few others.  I prefer light weight but want something decent.
Any suggestions and comments would be appreciated.
Thanks in advance
Steve

I used a couple through the years but the better
experience was with the Job line.

Confused about what?

I acquired a Benro GH2 on eBay, and once the camera and lens are balanced, it performs adequately. I think it was less than US$250.

You'll find that none of them will be lightweight, and the less expensive products will be acceptable but not great. ("Great" being defined as easy to set up, with very smooth movement.)

Google for reviews from actual owners of the Slik and Jobu, and go from there. I should think they'll be fairly comparable.

Damping is of great importance. It should be smooth
when engaged and totally free when not. Many chea-
per gimbals — and brand name ones too! — have no
zero damping option.

The cradle should allow form greatest sweeps in all 3
axises, directions without contact.

There should be NO rubber contacts anywhere, anyway.
