Photographer and Technician Create Frankenstein Camera for Special Assignment
Timur Civan is a working professional photographer, with a client that challenged him to shoot images with a vintage look. Instead of using his 4x5 camera or applying Photoshop or other photo-editing software embellishments, Civan and a technician friend devised a way to attach a 1908 35mm brass lens to a Canon EOS 5D Mark II DSLR.
The resulting digital Frankenstein camera captures black-and-white images that have the fuzzy, blurred edges from a 100-year-old camera, but are as contrast-rich as any image from a modern, pro-quality DSLR. Color photos appear unique, as scenes in sunlight emphasize dark yellows and oranges.
