New Nikon D3200 DSLR Is Big Boost for Beginners and Digital Photography Enthusiasts
-
Nikon has launched its new D3200 DSLR, which essentially replaces, or is an update, of the D3100. Nikon is marketing the camera to entry-level DSLR buyers and experienced DSLR hobbyist who are ready for more advanced specs and performance.
The D3200’s 24.2-megapixel DX-format CMOS sensor is almost 60% bigger than the D3100’s 14.2-MP sensor. The D3200 doesn’t weigh more than the D3100 and its slightly larger dimensions are negligible. The new Nikon DSLR also includes an ISO sensitivity range of 100–6,400, which then increases to 12,800 when the light level is very challenging.
What will be of particular interest to first-time DSLR owners as well as experienced shooters is the D3200’s Guide Mode. It explains digital photography techniques in a step-by-step manner and customized to the user’s experience level.
The Nikon D3200 also records 1080p Full-HD video at 24 or 30 fps and includes an auto-focus (AF) system that works full-time during video recording. An optional WU-1a Wireless Mobile Adapter is also available for the D3200. Photos can be shared immediately with this wireless capability, speeding images to anyone with a mobile device, such as smartphones and tablets.
On the date of the announcement, the Nikon D3200 was only available for pre-order from authorized dealers. It comes as a kit, with the D3200 DSLR body and the AF-S DX NIKKOR 18–55mm f/3.5–5.6G VR lens for $699.
