Two New Outdoor Adventure Cameras from Fujifilm and Olympus Are Ready for the Challenges of Any Season
-
Fujifilm and Olympus have announced their latest entries into the outdoor adventure digital camera marketplace. Both have comparable specifications for being waterproof, shockproof, freeze-proof and dustproof: the Fujifilm XP170, 33 feet, 6.5 feet and 14 degrees Fahrenheit; and the Olympus TG-1 iHS to 40 feet, 6.6 feet and 14 degrees Fahrenheit, respectively. While the Olympus model has a highly versatile GPS system, the Fujifilm camera does not. Conversely, the Fujifilm X170 has a Wireless Image Transfer feature for WiFi connectivity; the Olympus doesn’t include this capability.
Both cameras record 1080p Full-HD video, but the Olympus has a 3-inch, 610,000-dot OLED display; the Fujifilm model, a 2.7-inch LCD. The Olympus TG-1 is equipped with a 4x wide optical zoom (25–100mm) lens. At the time of its release, the Olympus f/2.0 lens was the fastest on any adventure camera. The Fujifilm XP170 is built with a 5x wide-angle optical zoom lens, a 28–140mm equivalent in 35mm format.
Both cameras will be available during June 2012. The Olympus TG-1 is estimated to be $399.99 and the Fujifilm XP170 at $279.95.
