Canon to Initiate All-Robot Production By 2015
According to unnamed sources, Canon, the world’s number-one digital camera manufacturer, is planning to convert all its production to robots by 2015. Some reports attribute the change to the continued movement of industrial production jobs to China and India, where labor is less costly than in Japan.
Canon officials have stated that all-robotic production/assembly lines will not displace current employees, who will be transferred to other jobs. Although Canon will reportedly make the change in its Japanese facilities first, it could implement the strategy in its overseas production centers as well.
