Is a Canon Full Frame DSLR camera in your future? Canon has been a leader in high-quality advanced and professional level Full Frame format cameras for over two decades and was one of the top brands for professional 35mm cameras and lenses for several decades before that.
This is why just about any Canon Full Frame DSLR from now or a few years ago will be a good choice as your next camera. Not only will it be able to deliver excellent images, but it will have features and a build quality that professionals and advanced users like.
The pre-owned or used camera market is an excellent place to shop to find Canon Full Frame DSLR cameras from a few years back. Buying from an online platform like MPB lets you find excellent examples of cameras from current production models to gear just a few years old.
Since MPB specializes in pre-owned photography gear and is run by photographers who know how stuff works, they can offer only the best machines to the public. They thoroughly inspect every time they sell, clearly list the condition, and offer a six-month warranty and seven-day return/exchange window on what they sell.
Another thing I like about MPB is that I can sell or trade in my older gear to them. They have an easy method of a preliminary online quote followed by an in-hand inspection. Not only does this ensure that their customers get only the best used equipment, but it also maximizes what they can offer to you for your gear.
I will list three top choices I found on MPB for Canon Full Frame DSLR cameras. Like most lists, I’ll categorize them as Good, Better, and Best.
Table of Contents:
Good Canon Full Frame DSLR - EOS 6D Mark II
The Canon EOS 6D Mark II is the Good camera on my Canon Full Frame DSLR list. I found examples at MPB in Like New condition for as low as $839. Canon placed the original 2012 release EOS 6D as an entry-level camera for Full Frame, but it is far more capable than most other cameras in that category. The Mark II version released in 2017 added even more improvements.
While it may be at an entry-level price point for Canon Full Frame DSLRs, the EOS 6D MK II is more like an intermediate-level camera. It already excels over many cameras in that it has a Full Frame image sensor with 26.2MP resolution; it also adds some nice touches such as weather resistance, Dual Pixel 41 point AF, and a 3” articulating viewscreen.
Video is limited to 1080p, and the body is made with a fair of plastic for lighter weight and lower cost. The top shutter speed is 1/4000th, and ISO range is 50 to 102,400, and it uses a single SD card.
It lacks the wonderful joystick control of higher-level Canon Full Frame DSLR cameras, but it is easy to use, and the lighter weight makes it a good choice for first-time Full Frame users or as a second body to use as a backup.
Better Canon Full Frame DSLR - EOS 5D Mark IV
The Canon EOS 5D Mark IV is the Better camera on my Canon Full Frame DSLR list. I found examples at MPB in Like New and Excellent condition for as low as $1379.
Introduced in 2016, the EOS 5D MK IV is an enthusiast-level Canon Full Frame DSLR camera. It has a 30MP sensor, Dual Pixel 61 point AF, ISO from 50 to 102,400, and adds 4K video. The rear view screen is fixed, but it adds touchscreen control.
Other features are an enhanced level of weather sealing, dual card slots (Compact Flash and SD), joystick control, enhanced battery life, more robust construction, enhanced video controls, and an optional battery pack. One downside for video is that the 4K mode is only available in a cropped format.
Best Canon Full Frame DSLR - EOS 1DX Mark II
The Canon EOS 1DX Mark II is the Best camera on my Canon Full Frame DSLR list. I found examples at MPB in Excellent condition for as low as $1799.
My Best choice on this Canon Full Frame DSLR list, the EOS 1DX MK II, is a fully professional-level camera, part of a complete pro system of accessories such as flash controllers, high-capacity batteries, and advanced video components.
The EOS 1DX mk II has a Full Frame format 20.2MP sensor with extremely good low light sensitivity. The ISO range is 50 to 409,600. That’s not a typo, ISO 409,600! Shutter speeds are 30 seconds to 1/8000th, and the flash sync speed is 1/250th. It records still images at up to 16 fps.
It records 1.34X crop DCI format 4K video and can be used in 1080p with full frame recording. Many codexes are installed, and it is compatible with many existing formats and software.
The body is so rugged that it has created a legendary status in how much abuse it can take.
But primarily, this is a fantastic tool for pro photographers or any other advanced photographer that wants the highest quality, most features, and extreme durability.
