Canon R6 Camera
The Canon EOS R6 came out just a few months ago. It’s a versatile camera known for being able to shoot a wide range of subjects. In comparison with the Canon EOS R5, the Canon EOS R6 is a tad bit less professional and less expensive, thanks to the fact that it features less megapixels, while still maintaining all of the things we love about this line.
It comes with 4K video, in-body image stabilization, and is compatible with a huge array of Canon’s RF lenses.

Canon EOS R6 Specs
We can’t judge the Canon EOS R6 without first getting a handle on all of the Canon EOS R6 specs.
The first thing everyone’s wondering is how many megapixels this camera comes with, and the answer is 20.1. Now, for a professional photographer working in fine art photography or commercial, high-end marketing, this probably isn’t enough for you. However, for any photographer participating in family photography or event photography, you may not see any reason to spend the money to get more than this.
It’s ISO range is impressive at 100-102,400, so I am once again thinking this would be a wonderful camera for anyone in the event industry. Being able to shoot phenomenal photos in low-light is one of the best things about the Canon EOS R6.
I briefly mentioned the in-body image stabilization on the Canon EOS R6 earlier. It’s the exact same system that is used in the Canon EOS R5, which means that it comes with up to 8 stops of image stabilization when paired with a variety of Canon lenses. It is, without a doubt, a fantastic in-body image stabilization system. It is also compatible with Rode Wireless GO II.

Canon EOS R6 Body & Design
When it comes to the Canon EOS R6 design, the Canon EOS R6 actually more closely resembles the Canon EOS RP than the Canon EOS R5.
It doesn’t come with a top OLED panel and it comes with an old-school mode dial instead of the hybrid Mode button you’ll find on the Canon EOS R5.
The Canon EOS R6 comes with a joystick, which is helpful, and it features weather-sealing worthy of a camera of this price point.
Going back to my Canon EOS RP comparison, the Canon EOS R6 is definitely larger. This size lends some great capacity to the camera, though, as its battery is 14% more powerful. Plus, it is still considered a mid-size body.
Another helpful aspect of the Canon EOS R6 is the fact that it comes with a RATE button, which allows you to rate each one of your photographs so that you can easily find your favorites later on during the editing process. If you don’t like this function, it can also be customized to either be a Protect or Delete button. However, I have yet to find a photographer who doesn’t like this function.

Canon EOS R6 Build & Handling
The Canon EOS R6 handling is going to be very familiar to anyone who has worked with the line before.
Canon definitely didn’t forget about the ergonomics of this camera and jumped through many hoops to make sure it is comfortable to hold and shoot on for hours at a time.
The menu is the same Canon menu we’ve all come to know and respect. It is still horizontal, which is a little difficult to deal with on your joystick, but you can easily jump from tab to tab which allows you to span the entire menu quickly and efficiently.
The one problem I did have with the handling of this camera is that the screen is difficult to see during a really bright day, unless you change its brightness setting.
Canon EOS R6 Video Performance

Obviously, one of the best Canon EOS R6 features is its video capabilities. It has some of the best 4K video available on the market today.
You can shoot 4K video at up to 60fps with full-readout on this camera. Or, you can shoot full HD 1080p video at up to 120fps with the same results.
While this camera doesn’t shoot 8K, like the EOS R5, the 4K capabilities are going to be more than enough for just about everyone working in the field today.
Unfortunately, the 4K video is limited on the Canon EOS R6. You can only record between a half an hour and 40 minutes of 4K video at 60p before the camera shuts down. If you’re shooting 4K video at 30p, then you can boost that rate up to somewhere between 40 minutes and 1 hour.
So, if you can go without 8K video and if you can go without shooting hours of 4K footage, then opting to purchase a Canon EOS R6 over a similar, more expensive model, may be the best move for you.
Canon EOS R6 Price
The Canon EOS R6 price is eye-watering at $3,600. This price point is to be expected of a brand-new Canon camera of this capacity, but there are easier ways for you to get a camera with some of the same functions of the Canon EOS R6 without spending nearly $4,000 doing so.
For instance, you can get a Canon EOS R or the Canon EOS RP on a used camera retailer website like MPB. Granted, these cameras aren’t to the same level as the R6, but they might still suit your needs.
MPB currently has dozens of Canon EOS R bodies available starting at just $1,650, which is a great way to save $2,000 versus buying an R6.
MPB also has a couple of Canon EOS RP bodies for less than $1,000.
Conversely, you can just keep your eye out for a used Canon EOS R6 in the future.
