Tuscany Workshop – September 2–9, 2012

Annie Griffiths, a National Geographic photographer with a worldwide reputation, and Justin Black, a well-known photographer, co-founder of Visionary Wild and trip leader will be your instructors, as you explore the Tuscan countryside and the city of Florence with your camera. They’ll teach you how to find, compose and capture the most compelling images to tell your unique story of the region.

Tuscany is a land of rolling hills accented by the vertical growth of Cypress trees and spreading vineyards and olive groves. Being in Florence is like being in a citywide museum. Architecture is the overwhelming subject matter for your camera: magnificent palazzos, cathedrals, medieval bridges and the city’s many festivals. The Festa della Rificolona, or Festival of the Paper Lanterns, is a must-see event that occurs every September 7^th.

Sonoma Coast Workshop – September 13–17, 2012

The land and sea meet in a titanic struggle for dominance along the Sonoma, California Coast, and few places reveal the amazing landscape of this battle better than Bodega Bay. Hope for a day when the fog and mist is rising from the sea, diffusing the sunlight to create magical images of rocky headlands, secluded coves pounded by the surf and coastal woodlands of bishop pines. The area is also home to ospreys, brown pelicans and other seabirds.

Your hosts for his advanced, intensive five-day learning experience will be Jerry Dodrill, an award-winning adventure and landscape photographer, who has spent many years living in and photographing this part of the California coast, and Justin Black.

Zion Workshop – October 8–12, 2012

Light, form, texture and natural history are the creative elements of the landscape photographer; and few places provide all four, and in rare and multitudinous combinations, as Zion National Park. Located in southwestern Utah, Zion’s palette is uniquely enhanced by encompassing portions of the Colorado Plateau, the Great Basin and the Mojave Desert. Zion’s unmatched mix of terrain and environment has also made it the perfect home for a plethora of wildlife and plant life.

During this intensive and all-inclusive photography workshop, you will develop your creativity and visual acuity to capture compositions you might otherwise miss under the tutelage of Jack Dykinga, acclaimed landscape photographer, and Justin Black, assistant instructor.

Boulder, Utah Workshop – October 15–19, 2012

Jack Dykinga and Justin Black are also your instructors for this exclusive landscape, nature and wildlife workshop. For serious photographers looking for a new canvas, the little known area of southern Utah, near the town of Boulder, is an image-rich and seldom photographed landscape and environment. Known as the Grand Staircase-Escalante National Monument, it features an incredible combination of plateaus, sandstone canyons, rock formations, cliffs and unbelievable rock arches.

The Monument is named for the intricate labyrinth of rocky canyons, cliffs and plateaus that appear like giant steps from the northern end of the Grand Canyon. Wonderful cultural treasures that have been preserved in the Grand Staircase-Escalante area are the ancient sites where the Anasazi and Fremont Indians lived for centuries.

Costa Rica Workshop – December 2–8, 2012

A photography adventure on the Osa Peninsula of Costa Rica is an opportunity you shouldn’t miss. National Geographic describes it as “one of the most biologically intense places on earth,” an unspoiled, natural wonderland that will challenge any serious photographer.

During the six total days of the Visionary Wild’s Costa Rica Advanced Workshop, you will learn the specific visual and creative tools to shoot this panorama of wildlife and spend many hours roaming the Peninsula with your camera. Guiding you will be famed wildlife photographer Daniel Beltra and Justin Black, who is a leading advocate of conservation photography. Following daytime demonstrations and field work, the small number of workshop participants will gather during the evening for instruction in digital workflow techniques and share and critique each other’s daily output.
