One of the downsides of Apple continuing to advance the technology in such significant leaps is that various accessories and resources from third-party manufacturers aren’t able to move forward as quickly as Apple. This translates into having the latest iPad, and arguably the best tablet, but, as in this case, apps that no longer make the grade. Many apps look just fine on an iPad 2, which has a lower-resolution display than the new iPad; however, unless, or until, they are upgraded, they reduce the effectiveness and value of using them on the newer model.
Fortunately, some app makers understand their business is dependent on advancing their products at the same rate as Apple and/or developing new ones specifically for the new iPad and its amazing Retina Display. If you find yourself facing this dilemma, then consider trying the following five apps. Not all of them are specifically for digital photography purposes, but those that aren’t provide you with some entertainment diversions after a long day of shooting.

For movie fans, the iTunes Movie Trailers app provides high-definition previews of films that are available for purchase from iTunes, movies currently in theaters and future entertainment coming to the neighborhood big screen. Be aware that the speed of your Internet connection is a factor in the quality of the picture. When you do have the availability of excellent WiFi or 4G connectively, these trailers look so good on the Retina Display that you must have the discipline not to be distracted and return to your photography work, which is objectively more important.

Flipboard has been a popular iPad app for many users, as it creates a customized digital presentation similar to a magazine. With the new iPad’s Retina Display, Flipboard is even more attractive, since the sharpness of the Display’s text makes you want to read every issue. Flipboard has upgraded its content with cover stories that include large photos, which seem to leap from the display. Of course, the low-res images from Facebook and Twitter won’t look any better, but that is a small price to pay to be wowed by the high-res photos in Flipboard.

As a digital photographer with a new iPad and its much improved rear camera, you’ll love Apple’s iPhoto app. Because the Retina Display reproduces images so amazingly, the various tools, such as color-rich paintbrushes and negative strips to designate effects, will allow you to edit your photos to even greater exactness.

The ABC Player from ABC Digital provides you with access to the increasing amount of programming from network and cable TV channels that is available to iPad users. Connect to a fast Internet service and you’ll be able to view your favorites in full HD on the marvelous Retina Display.

Tweetbot is an app that has been very popular with iPhone users and now you’ll be able to maximize the benefits of being a tweeter with the intuitive taps and swipes of this app. Again, because the Retina Display is so mesmerizing, you’ll love to work with Tweetbot’s textured backgrounds, frames and buttons.
