Mexico Photography Can Become a Lifelong Photographic Project

Mexico photography can be considered an ongoing project for one’s life. It is the 14th largest country in the world by territory area and includes 6,000 square kilometers of islands. The people of Mexico have adapted a culture that is very colorful; portrayed in their clothing, art, and jewelry. Whereas in many cultures it can be a way to bring color into a life where nature has been stingy with it, in Mexico’s case it is that, as well as a celebration of the array of color that can be found in the landscapes, flora, and animals.

The country has mountainous regions that are an extension of the US Rocky Mountains. Snow falls in winter can be seen in the area north of the Tropic of Cancer which divides the country’s temperate and tropical zones and to the south are areas that are dry with only sporadic periods of rainfall. Wildlife in Mexico boasts 200,000 different species and is heavily biodiverse. It ranks first in the world in biodiversity among reptiles, second in mammals, and fourth in amphibians. It also ranks fourth in flora in the world with 26,000 different species.

With that much geodiversity and the enormous biodiversity a short trip will not disappoint an avid photographer, a much longer one will delight, and several over a lifetime will be needed to truly experience all Mexico photography can offer.

To take in nature and give yourself every opportunity to come home with amazing shots, pack up the zoom lenses and visit one of the 34 reserves, 64 national parks, 4 national monuments, 26 flora and fauna reserves, or 17 rich diverse species sanctuaries the government protects and funds. A must see for Mexico photography is the migration of hundreds of millions of monarch butterflies to spend winters in Mexico. The peak migration time is January and February.

Mexico has one of the largest tourism industries in the world. Peak tourist months are December, July and August. There are usually a vast number of festivals during these months which make for great photo shoots. Visitors choose Mexico over and over for the beauty of the country, a stand out quality for someone who travels “because of their camera” and not just “with their camera”.

Mexico photography opportunities are easy to find and so it is a usual favorite of photography tourists. In fact there are many Photography Tours available, more so than other countries. Some are complete tours while others can be for a few hours or a whole day. These will often give you possible photos that others would not have access to because the tour guides can enter private homes, gardens and rooftops for picture opportunities.

Architectural and history sites that involve the Aztec Empire such as Mexico City, or the ancient pyramids of Tula, Tenochtitlan, Teotihuacan, or colonial towns such as Puebla are recommended destinations. Whether you love photographing points of interest related to history, architectural design, people and their cultures, wildlife, nature, or striking landscapes, Mexico photography involves them all. Make plans for a short excursion or an extended stay; whatever you do make it a photo opportunity for yourself. It’s liable to be so remarkable you’ll end up doing it again and again to take in more and more. Mexico photography can easily become a lifelong photographic project.
