So we have yet to determine whether photographers are dating material or not and we left that at everyone’s personal choice while skillfully dodging any form of responsibility. This time I would like to make a statement, one that I genuinely believe in, and that is that photographers make really good friends. Think about it, but go beyond the obvious reasons. It’s good to be friends with a photographer, much like it is to be with a bartender, only it goes deeper than that. Here are a few arguments to support my statement.

Please note that none of what is written in this article is in any way intended to offend anyone.

  1. Your taste in movies will evolve

Photographers watch a lot of movies and generally have above-average knowledge in cinematography, so top movie recommendations are to be expected. No, movies with The Rock will probably not be included.

  1. The obvious reason

Perhaps I should have started with this one, but I thought it would be too cliché. Yes, you will have photos of you taken for free. Just don’t ever ask your photographer friend to take them in some strange bathroom, replacing your iPhone, because you might receive a rather angry response.

  1. The cool stories

Photography is a cool lifestyle and some photographers, not all of them, have awesome stories to tell. If you’re lucky enough and your photographer friend is close to the top, you might be hearing some interesting facts about local or even international celebrities.

  1. Photographers give good advice

They are creative people; therefore most of them have an open mind and a clear outside view. Expect them to properly asses a situation and give you honest feedback.

  1. They are geeks

They love gadgets and not just the ones that are photography related. You can ask for advice before making all sorts of purchases.

  1. They love to party

Having a photographer friend might not be as practical as knowing the bartender from a cool place, but you can sure count on having someone to party with till the break of dawn.

  1. They have connections

Photography as a business revolves around people and the more you know the better. Successful photographers know a lot of people with all kinds of backgrounds from all kinds of branches, so expect them to know anything from make-up artists to stunt men.

  1. They’re good at interior decorating

It’s not just about good taste. Photographers know more about light than anything else, so having one of them as a friend might turn out to be an advantage when deciding what kind of lighting you want around the house.

  1. They’re popular

Being a successful photographer is kind of like being a mini rock star. Hanging out with one will put you in positive light, so to speak.

  1. They can be great wedding planners

A wedding photographer could help you organize your entire wedding, provided that time isn’t an issue. Since they go to a lot of ceremonies, over time they develop a sense of what works and what doesn’t, what looks good and what screams of lack of taste.

  1. They know a lot of pretty girls

Enough said.

  1. More love for your Facebook profile

New pictures, good ones nonetheless, equal more likes, so your Facebook popularity is bound to explode.

  1. Your kids will have a detailed record of their growth

If your photographer friend has a habit of coming by every now and then, he’s bound to snap a few shots of your baby with every visit.

  1. Your online store could see massive sales

If you have small business, something like an online store that sells certain products, having quality photos of your products is bound to boost the sales, so buy your photographer a few rounds every now and then.
