You don't have to be a gearhead to understand what a good camera is and to love it. There is so much to choose from, yet so many photographers stick to a handful of options when it comes to investing in a new camera system or upgrading from an older model. Since Canon is one of the big brands photographers flock to, let's take a quick look at three of their best bodies. We picked them with image quality and functionality in mind, but we've also kept an eye on the price tag. Here they are.
Canon 5Ds
It's been a while since Nikon held top position in the resolution war, and after a fairly long wait, Canon fans got what they deserved: a genuine megapixel monster. The Canon 5Ds is a professional's camera designed to produce large files with incredible resolution. The 50.6 megapixel sensor and dual Digic 6 processors produce astonishing results. The body is rigid enough to reduce camera shake and it has two available crop modes: 1.3x (30.5mp) and 1.6x (19.6mp). You also get the ability to choose small or medium size RAW files, but you would probably be missing the point of this camera. Canon 7D MKII
One thing we like about Canon is that they didn't ignore the APS-C segment, unlike other manufacturers you might have heard of. All jokes aside, photographers loved the 7D and Canon gave them the successor. The MKII is everything Canon lovers expected, and possibly more. It has a 20.2 MP sensor, dual Digic 6 image processors like the 5Ds and a new 65 point, all cross type AF system that has turned into a speed demon. Oh, and it can shoot 10fps. Seriously, this is a camera made for the outdoors and fast action. It's an ideal sports camera at an affordable price and it's a great purchase for event photographers as well. A lot of photographers invested in crop lenses in the past, and Canon knows and respects that. Canon 5D MKIII
It's three years old and by some standards, very old technology. But the 5D MKIII is a textbook example of what a good camera should be like. Even after its launch in 2012, it is the current workhorse of countless Canon enthusiasts and pro photographers. It still is an excellent camera to use and it's also really enjoyable. It's a powerful photographic tool with a 22mp sensor, a 61 point AF system and a decent 6fps. It's also industry standard for video capture and that just makes it even more attractive. Needless to say, these are by no means the only Canon cameras worth buying. There's a lot to choose from if you're a beginner, with the 760D being the latest. Let's not forget high end monsters like the 1Dx and 1Dc. Whatever your choice, remember the camera is important, but what really makes the difference is who's behind it.
