There are times in ones career, where you just need to stick up for your ideas.
The images in this post are from a couple of years ago, but I think they
still stand up to today's standards.
This was a shoot with an art director that I was working with for the first
time. The original idea was for me to light the shoot a certain way using
all strobes.
When I got to the location, I noticed that the natural light was absolutely
stunning in the house. What's a photographer to do.

I shot a test shot exactly how he originally wanted it shot, then I shot one
the way I thought it should be shot. I believe that you should always use
available daylight if possible, and it fits the theme of the shoot. In this
case, it fit perfectly.
The theme of the shoot was sort of whimsical and based on the fact that this
woman wore her wedding dress for everything. Cleaning, dusting, doing the
dishes, for everything! I thought that by using strobe we would lose the
feeling of that. The art director, who is one of the best I have ever worked
with agreed!
In the end, I think everything turned out timeless, and fun. That was
exactly what we were looking for. If I would have just done what I was told,
I don't think it would have turned out as nice.
If you look at the shots, you will see my normal technique of front flat
lighting and back lighting. It works every time!!
Don't compromise on your style and you will end up looking better in the
eyes of many.
