Canon 5D Classic EOS Series DSLR Camera

Even though the Canon EOS 5D Classic is now 13 years old, it's still a great camera.

And since you can find it on the cheap, it's an even better bet for photographers that want to upgrade their camera experience to a full frame camera.

Granted, a camera from 2005 isn't going to have the modern bells and whistles to which we've become accustomed, but still, it's a full frame, professional-grade camera that can still get the job done in 2018. Canon 5D Mark III is also a similar camera with great features.

And I'm not the only person that thinks so...

In the video above, Mattias Burling explains how he found a Canon EOS 5D Classic for just $76.

Additionally, he dives into a number of reasons why the 5D is still a fantastic camera.

I offer a summary of some of his findings below...

The Canon EOS 5D Classic is Cheap

As you might expect, 13 years after its debut, used Canon EOS 5D cameras can be found for a great deal.

You can get a 5D in good condition with all the pieces and parts (battery, body cap, charger, and strap) for just a few hundred bucks.

Considering that a used Canon 5D Mark IV is roughly twice as much (which is still a great deal!), the original 5D is just about the cheapest full frame camera you can find these days.

When you have to save your money for improved glass, a tripod, lens filters, and an array of other necessities, it just makes sense to get a budget-friendly camera.

Editor's Tip: Have an old camera that you no longer need or want? SEE HOW MUCH IT'S WORTH, THEN TRADE IT IN TO FINANCE A CAMERA UPGRADE.

There is an Endless Array of Canon EF Lenses

One of the best advantages of the Canon 5D - aside from the price - is that you can find EF lenses just about anywhere you look.

Not only that, you can get primes or zooms, wide-angles or telephotos, and anything in between, and it'll work beautifully with the 5D Classic.

And, just like the 5D, you can find smokin' deals on EF lenses, provided you know where to look.

Again, when you have budgetary constraints (who doesn't?!), finding ways to stretch your dollar further will allow you to fill out your kit without taking out a second mortgage.

The Canon 5D Classic is Workhorse

Sure, the Canon EOS 5D features just a 12-megapixel CMOS sensor (high resolution) and 9 autofocus points alongwith 6 assist AF points which are invisible, but it's still a professional camera. The entire AF system was upgraded and is better than the 20D.

The camera body was built to last, and is a rugged piece of gear that can take a beating from you and still work like a charm.

You can take it to the beach or to a wedding, a mountaintop or a busy street, and this thing will do what you ask it to do and give you solid results.

Now, with a max ISO of 1600, you probably aren't going to be using the 5D in tough lighting conditions. It has got 2.5" rear lcd monitor color TFT liquid crystal monitor. This LCD monitor is similar to 5D mark series cameras.

But if you've got plenty of light, this thing will probably surprise you with the way it can still capture an image.

Wrapping It Up

Mattias offers a couple more great reasons for buying a Canon 5D Classic, so be sure to check out his full video at the beginning of this article.

But for me, the case has already been made for this being a smart purchase, even in 2018.

You get solid performance, a rock-solid and rugged body, and a huge selection of compatible lenses that allow you to take virtually any photo you like.

Add to that the fact that you can find deals on the 5D Classic that allow you to stretch your budget, and you have the makings of a camera that's pretty much ideal for enthusiast photographers that want an inexpensive full frame camera.

Heck, even if you're a pro photographer with a bag full of new gear, grabbing a pre-owned Canon 5D Classic doesn't cost much and gives you a workhorse camera for situations in which you don't want to use your big, bad 5D Mark IV.

Have a look at some great deals on the 5D Classic, and see what this budget full frame camera can do for you!
