1. The Canon PowerShot G12 advances the famous G Series technologies to become the company’s #1 camera with pro-style features in a compact, or point-and-shoot, design. The PowerShot G12 includes a 10-megapixel CCD sensor combined with Canon’s DIGIC 4 Image Processor to create the Canon HS System, 2.8-inch Vari-Angle PureColor System LCD, RAW + JPEG image modes, 4x digital zoom and ISO sensitivity to 3,200. The PowerShot G12 has upped the ante, however, with new capabilities, such as 720p HD video with stereo sound, multiple aspect ratios, High Dynamic Range, Electronic Level and Tracking AF. The Canon PowerShot G12 retails for $499.99.

Since the Canon HS System combines the S95’s 10-megapixel sensor with the company’s DIGIC 4 Image Processor, the camera actually performs better, in terms of image quality and noise, than cameras with larger sensors at the same price point. This allows you to be very creative with wide-angle compositions as well as capturing distant objects at concerts and outdoor gatherings, and gaining more experience as a nature photographer. Push the SX40’s Zoom Framing Assist button to help you track and frame any moving subject easily. The Canon PowerShot SX40 HS retails for $429.99.
