  1. Is there a rugged/chic segment of the digital photography consumer market? That’s what Sony’s new Cyper-shot TX200V Digital Camera would seem to indicate. It’s a camera for people who enjoy outdoor adventures, within limits, but are also stylish. They are apt to be seen in a kayak or on a mountain bike and on the floor of the hottest dance club during the same weekend.

  1. Sony has essentially brought together the features of its waterproof TX10 and the glamorous TX100 to create the TX200V digital camera. It’s waterproof, to a depth of 16 feet; cold weather resistant to a temperature of 14 degrees F; and dustproof. Nice specs, but this means the TX200V is not for extreme adventurers, but for very active people, who include the outdoors among the activities they enjoy, and want to capture in pictures and video.

  1. The exterior design of the Sony Cyper-shot TX200V projects a classy, upscale look, with its highly reflective front panel. The lack of many controls on the outside of the camera reinforces its sleekness and fashionable appearance; however, they also attest to the camera’s outdoors usage, creating fewer weak points to allow the entry of water or dust. All you’ll find is an on/off button, shutter button, zoom toggle and a wrist strap connector. The entire back of the camera is the 3.3” Xtra Fine TruBlack OLED Touch-Screen Display.

  1. The touch-screen display is where you’ll find the comprehensive menu that controls most of the camera’s operations. Sony designed an accurate and very intuitive menu system, with scrolling navigation, and a large number of selections that are easy to access and learn.

  1. By keeping the TX200V compact and light, Sony also made it appealing to the outdoors enthusiast and those looking for a fashion accessory. At 4.6 oz. (129g), there’s not much weight to intrude on adventures, on the mountain or in the clubs, but you can still keep it handy on your wrist to record all the fun of whatever you’re doing, instantly. The dimensions of the TX200V are equally convenient, with it being less than an inch thick: 3 7/8” x 2 3/8” x 21/32” (95.5 x 58.3 x 16.0mm).

  1. The Sony Cyper-shot TX200V certainly has the pixel power for a wide range of photographic situations. Its 18.9-megapixel CMOS sensor and BIONZ® image processor deliver sharp, color-rich images. The combination of this hardware and the camera’s surprisingly broad ISO sensitivity range (ISO 64–12,800) results in better low-light pictures and video.

  1. Sony has also given the TX200V a bigger optical zoom factor than the TX10 and TX100, with a Carl Zeiss® Vario-Tessar® 5x optical-zoom lens, which is 28–140mm in the 35mm format. You can then select the “Clear Image Zoom” option, which effectively increases the zoom factor to 10x.

  1. The TX200V’s lens and sensor/processor combination also provide all the power and resolution needed to record 1080/60p Full-HD video. You can also shoot still photos and movie clips, simultaneously.

  1. Sony has designed the continuous shooting capabilities of the TX200V to satisfy both adventure and nightlife seekers. A burst of 10 frames per second is possible at full-size, 18.2-MP images. They won’t miss any picture, as they hike high-country trails or the pavement of the “what’s happening” part of town.

  1. The TX200V is equipped with a GPS and compass, which gather shooting location data for rugged outdoors enthusiasts in the middle of the backcountry. It could prove equally useful for members of the partying crowd to determine where they were the night before.

  1. The Sony Cyper-shot TX200V digital camera also features a complete array of helpful shooting modes, such as auto, face detection, Smile Shutter, anti-blink and Intelligent Scene Recognition.
