Most noticeable of the EOS Rebel T4i’s upgrades is the new Hybrid CMOS autofocus system, a first for an EOS camera. It includes a 9-point all cross-type AF array, with a high-precision, dual-cross f/2.8 point at center. With this much faster AF system, the T4i will spend less time focus hunting and operate continuously for stills or video in Live View. Two-dimensional contrast detection in the AF’s cross-type points results in focusing that is more precise for virtually any composition or subject location within the frame.

The Canon EOS Rebel T4i DSLR’s AF system further enhances and makes easier the picture-taking process with its LCD’s Touch Focus feature. Touch the screen to select a subject or object in the frame and it will remain sharply in focused even in a crowd or group photo. This feature works for either stills or video in Live View. The LCD also has a Touch Shutter control. Select a subject in the frame with a touch, the AF system locks on him or her in sharp focus, and then immediately captures the picture.
HD video recording is another serious upgrade in the Canon EOS Rebel T4i DSLR. It becomes the first EOS model with a Movie Servo AF that operates very evenly and silently, especially when the camera is paired with Canon’s new EF and EF-S STM lenses. The Movie Servo AF functions continuously during video recording and gives your movies the same bokeh, or background blur effect, that DSLRs achieve in still images. This upgrade to the Rebel T4i allows you to capture a quality of video that will mesmerize your family and friends whenever you show them videos of family events and travelogues.
As with many Canon camera models, the EOS Rebel T4i includes the Video Snapshot feature, which makes it easy to create a short segment of the best footage from a vacation or just hanging with friends. Canon has upgraded this feature on the Rebel T4i, giving you more control of your Video Snapshot content. You’re able to delete segments or edit the scenes in a different sequence, prior to uploading your Video Snapshot to social media or sharing it with family and friends. You’ll also find the first stereo microphone on any of the EOS Rebel models. Use the attenuator to lessen any distortion from extremely loud sounds that may occur during video recording.
The new Canon EOS Rebel T4i also comes with an 18-megapixel APS-C CMOS sensor; DIGIC 5 Image Processor; 3.0” Vari-Angle, Touch Screen LCD; and an ISO sensitivity range of 100–12,800, expandable to 25,600.
