Canon EOS-1D X Mark II Specs

Although the Canon EOS-1D X Mark II doesn’t fit into the category of ultra high-resolution cameras, this doesn’t mean it was not made for professionals. The Canon EOS-1D X Mark II was built around a 20.2 megapixel (5472 x 3648px), full frame (35mm) CMOS sensor, and it has a native sensitivity range of ISO 100 - 51,200.

The camera is capable of making impressive images in any given light environment, but it is particularly effective in low-light situations. The EOS-1D X Mark II shoots at expanded sensitivities down to ISO 50 (L), and up to 102400 (H1), 204800 (H2), and 409600 (H3). This should allow you to capture images even in almost total darkness, while you can also attach an external flash via the hot shoe.

Because of its dual DIGIC 6+ image processors, the EOS-1D X Mark II is incredibly fast, and overall, a great performer. The camera offers burst shooting at up to 14 fps (up to 16 fps in Live View). Additionally, it has the very fast Dual Pixel CMOS AF with 61 AF points (41 of them are cross-type). In general, its autofocus system works great for shooting stills as well as for movie capture.

Canon EOS-1D X Mark II Body & Design

Since it is heavily loaded with features and has a strong in build, the Canon EOS-1D X Mark II is not the most compact camera on the market. It measures 6.2 x 6.6 x 3.3 inches and weighs 54.5 oz (with batteries), so it isn’t exactly made for being a travel photography camera.

The camera features a 3.2” 1-62m-dot LCD screen with touchscreen technology. Unfortunately, the screen is fixed so you need to improvise when shooting stills and videos from uncomfortable angles.  Moreover, there is a 20mm optical pentaprism viewfinder with a coverage of 100% and magnification of 0.76x.

The EOS-1D X Mark II also has a top deck display which is useful when you want to check the camera’s settings before releasing the shutter button.

Canon EOS-1D X Mark II Build & Handling

As we already mentioned in the introduction, the Canon EOS-1D Mark II has a robust design. It’s built out of magnesium-alloy and it is weather-sealed against dust, moisture, and freezing temperatures. This means that you don’t have to worry about using the camera in harsh meteorological conditions. However, it is not water-proofed!

The grip feels comfortable in the hand, but if you intend to spend a lot of hours shooting, you might want to use a tripod. The Canon EOS-1D Mark II is a bit heavy, especially if you add big lenses. However, its dials and buttons are large and easy to use and its ergonomics feel intuitive. While using it, you will definitely understand why this is a top choice for photography professionals.

Canon EOS-1D X Mark II Video Performance

Along with great image quality, the Canon EOS-1D X Mark II offers impressive video capabilities. The camera shoots 4K (Motion JPEG) video at up to 60 fps, while it also has the capability for recording Full HD video at 120 fps.

The Canon EOS-1D X Mark II uses Dual Pixel CMOS & Movie Servo AF for videos and AF points can easily be repositioned while you are in recording mode. Low-light performance is great, and you can record at ISO 12800 in 4K and ISO 25600 in Full HD.

The camera has a convenient option to extract 8.8-Megapixel stills from 4K videos. Additionally, there is an HDMI output, dual card slot, microphone port, and headphone jack.

Canon EOS-1D X Mark II Lenses

The Canon EOS-1D X Mark II uses the Canon EF mount. The EF lens mount is the standard lens mount on the Canon EOS family of SLR film and digital cameras. EF stands for "Electro-Focus": automatic focusing on EF lenses is handled by a dedicated electric motor built into the lens. At the moment, there are millions of Canon EF lenses in the world so you shouldn’t have a problem finding the perfect one for yourself.
