Hi Mike... pardon the delayed response, I just noticed your question and can easily show you what is happening!

If you go to our Gallery Home for example:  www.photographytalk.com/gallery/trending/landscape-photography   You'll see a layout like:

Now you can interact with photos 1 of 2 ways here.  You can click on an image and view it, like it, or comment on it as shown here:  www.photographytalk.com/photos/449947

Alternatively and what is very common for the 'PT Browsers' is to engage with photos directly from for example:  www.photographytalk.com/gallery/trending/landscape-photography .  When you run your mouse over each image, you can see some options to share an image AND 'Like' it.  As shown here:

When you 'Like' an image from this view, our system will track the 'Like' but because the image wasn't opened, we don't count that as a view.

As I'm typing this response out, I thinking we should start counting that as a view as technically, for that person to like your image, they would have looked at it.  OK... I'll get this squared away.  Stay tuned!

I can't even change my own avatar picture (which I find kind of disturbing )

I'll have my team look into this too!  Again... Stay tuned friend!

Thanks Alex !!

Does every picture I post in the Galleries section get viewed by people not actually IN the gallery thread area  ?

Also, seems like an influx of new folk here.  That's good.

I like this forum {website} but if you strictly want to have people view and and see how you fair against other photographers try 500 px, viewbug and the likes. Its not a community like here, but its great for posting and having the world get a chance to have an input on your pictures.

1 view=1 like would obviously not be a realistic way to judge pictures. I view many pictures I dont like.....hahaha.
