Up resolution question

If I wanted to print an image that was 175% larger than the original resolution.  Is there a way I can do a test print of just a small section of it to test the quality of the finished print so I don't waste ink with the large print?  If it matters, I'm using both Photoshop and Lightroom.

You can print at 100% size on a smaller piece of paper.

If you don't want to print a whole page, you can do the same but cut out everything around the centre just for the test.

First open your picture full sized in photoshop.  You'll need to create a photoshop file the exact size you want to print (and with the DPI of your printer).

You do that when opening a new file in PS:

I'll assume you've done that already.

Step 1. Select part of your image you want to print using the marquee tool (or lasso tool):

Step 2. Click on "Add Layer Mask" (lower right)

Step 3. Print it on smaller paper at 100% and without scaling (should be the same printer you're going to use for the final image)

Step 4. After testing delete the vector mask by right clicking on it and selecting "Delete Layer Mask".

The end.

Any questions?

Um 175% of what?

Without knowing the original resolution of the file (not the PPI, that's completely irrelevant) we can't have an opinion on your potential for success.

What are the dimensions of the image, and what do you have in mind for a print size? If you can provide those numbers we'll be able to give you a much better idea as to what your results will be.
