Is it just me or do these look soft?

Humm. Now that you mention it, everything beyond the surf appears slightly soft. As if the DOF does not quite make it to infinity.

Nah, I'm talking about the foreground too... look at this:

The barrel etc. looks a bit soft.

Or . . . vee are expecting a lot from an uploaded JPG? If the original looked like that I would just give the ACR clarity slider a nudge. But my experience is that most JPG uploaders are the work of the devil.

I didn't know what an ACR clarity slider is so I googled it and it's a Photoshop tool? I'm still really lost with Photoshop and don't know how to use it really. I've tried watching tutorials and I'm still bumbling around.

I want to start teaching people how to use LR and/or ACR (same engine). I have a couple of friends I'm going to use as guinea pigs to develop a curriculum.

Unless you're in central Texas, unfortunately I can't help you.

You are one lucky girl! Hawaii is on my bucket list.

I like the contrast of the rusty barrel amongst such beauty. I too like old, dilapidated stuff and shoot as much as possible.

If you have the $$, invest in a good polarizer. It will make your clouds more defined and will make all the other colors pop. I use a B+W polarizer and love it. In a pinch you can use it kinda like a Neutral Density filter (ND). You won't be able to use it for rainbows tho..

O, and as far as Photoshop...try Lightroom. I hear it's easier and geared for photographers. I will be trying it soon.
