Ah, yes, I see the watermark comment once in a while. It is the best form of protection an artist has against losing control of their work. As artists, we must decide what we're comfortable with. You may not mind the threat enough to protect your work, I do.

If my images were too small, then folks could complain about that. Again, it's a balancing act.I'll rephrase my statement: watermarking is the method I use to protect my images. I'm fully aware that I can't stop someone who has PS with a working knowledge of layers and masks as well as an ability to alter my work. In order to completely eliminate that, I would agree with you, the only solution is to not make them publicly available. But, that pretty much defeats the entire point of having an online presence. So, what's reasonable? Deterrence. I can't stop them, but I'll make them really want it (enough to own PS and learn how to use it). And, guess what, that kills, by far, the majority of the threats. Why? Because they want easy and quick. They don't want to use PS and learn layers and masks - especially when other artists don't care and post images that don't require extra work.
Have you ever heard about the two guys being chased by a bear? The one guy tells the other, you can't outrun a bear. To which he states back, I don't have to, I just have to outrun you. With that I'll wrap up the Cyber Security lesson for the day.
