Please Help Me Decide on Lens (MP-E 1x-5x vrs 100mm 2.8L IS)

Hi Everyone,
I am going to have around $1300 to spend on a lens. I wanted a super awesome macro lens. I have had the 35mm 2.8 from canon as well as a 2x macro lens from Oshiro. I was thinking the MP-E 65mm 1x-5x or the Canon 2.8L IS 100mm macro.

I love super macro and would choose the MP-E, but I'm afraid there might be closeup shots I can't get. I like taking landscape macro, where you see a flower, an aphid, and maybe something in the background, making it like a jungle of macro subjects. Can I get this with the MP-E or will I have to get too close? Are there ways to make it so I can get further away?

The only reason I don't just get the 2.8L is because it doesn't have super magnification and people keep saying, "I finally got the MP-E for serious macro work." What does that mean? I need a versatile macro lens that can get really close but also let me take a landscape macro shot including more than just the subject.
