I am still not as happy as I was with my D70 please help but keep it simple

Aside from starting your own thread (which you should), in what way are you not happy?

Well here you go. A little something that I found on CL that shows the difference.

If you had the kit lens on the D70, I believe that was a 50mm f/1.8D? Different class of lens. What you have now is much slower, so perhaps that is the primary difference? You did not provide information about what you are comparing to. You don't even mention what you have, only what you're looking at buying.

That said, the D7000 sensor ought to do better in low light, but the lens matters here, too. If you want to work with dim environments, you want fast glass (f/2.8 or wider).

My bad. The old ads show a 50.

Hard to imagine how a D7000 with a kit lens could perform any worse than a D70. 'Tis a perplexing question.

Yes they are the right lenses. Well in low light situations, are you bumping up your ISO setting so you can get faster shutter speeds? While VR is nice it does not help if the shutter is way too slow. Also your D7000 will show up any movement, or flaws in your shooting technique because of the increased pixel count. That is the problem many people are having with the newer cameras. To me support is your best friend when shooting in low light.
