Do you struggle with getting up early for the shot?

7 years 4 months ago #508552 by Matt VanDyke
I know the pay off potential will be big, but I just have a really tough time with getting up before the sun comes up!  I have good intent, the night before, all my gear is backed, car is fueled up.  Even the coffee machine has been rescheduled to brew earlier!

Well I didn't get up in time this morning.  Again.  So I'll come here and post about it.  Hopefully I get my butt out of bed early tomorrow!

If I am at home, yes. If I'm on a trip, I always get out early. The excitement of being somewhere new is too much to stay in bed. It's also the best time to get images without crowds of people if in a popular area.

What do you define as being "cold"?   Here in southern california... cold is 40's.  Speaking of which, when I go for my daily bike ride at 5am, it's often in mid 40's to mid 50's this time of the year.  That is cold for here.  So i'm out in full ninja gear, face mask and all!  Stealthy would be proud. LOL

Below zero, depending on the wind. Not blowing, I can stand forty below for a few hours....Not bad for a California escapee, no?

Yeah I agree it depends on whether it is windy or not. People here give me grief over not wearing a coat when it is only in the 30s. I hear the aren't you cold, and I always say I will get cold when it gets below 20.
Alex I used to love riding when it was in the 30s&40s. I did not sweat as much.

Now as far as getting up early. It is not really a problem for me, because I do it out of habit. I was pumping concrete for so many years that 5AM is sleeping in. That job had no set schedule, and my day could start from midnight to 8 on another day. I like seeing the sun come up, so it is easy.

To me getting up early all depends on motivation.
Money is a motivation.
Fame not so much.
So paid jobs I will impress the client with good light shots.
So I tend to do more at sunset.

I have a problem getting out of bed when the weather is cold, but I think that we may have different definitions of cold...in Rochester, it's not unusual for it to get below zero in the winter. Wouldn't be caught dead in that sort of weather.

Most to the time, no.  Depends on when I go to bed.

Same with me.  If I get enough sleep, I'm easy to rise in the morning.
