A few weeks ago watched a documentary on mines.  Nuts when you think about how far some of those go into the Earth.  Some miles!

Never been underground, but I believe it has it’s own set of skills. The humidity, lenses fogging up inside...

Yes, it is scary.
We have the deepest mine in the world, Mponeng. 4km (2,5m) with temperatures up to 150F. (65C)
They have to pump cool air down there.
South Africa has the 6 deepest mines in the world, of which two are closed.

Remember, deeper in the earth is  melted rock. It erupts out of volcanoes.

I worked in a open cast mine.
One huge hole in the ground.

Sorry, wasn't sure if you went all the way down in it or just had to photograph top or outside of it.  So to get down did you walk or take one of those low profile mining cars?

I drove anywhere in the Open Pit where a car would take me, which was more or less anywhere where the haultrucks drove. I just needed a visibility pole, a long pole with an florescent orange ball at the top te be visible to the trucks at all times.

Man how long would it take to get to the bottom, those mine cars don't travel that fast right?

Not too bad, about 30kmph, it has an electric overhead cable to work it like a tram, saving diesel uphill.
Downhill is actually a lot slower. Imagine a 150 ton truck going out of control.
