You'll find most beginners are either too clumsy or too careful with their gear. Learning to hold a camera correctly (left hand UNDER the lens, for both vertical "portrait" or horizontal "lanscape" mode), and the strap around your head and one arm, will give you a sense of security (and comfort). But many skip that page in their camera manual.
