rusty beams? have you seen the Bay Bridge? What does rust have to do with the story?
Actually yes I have, my brother in law is an engineer that was working on the bridge a couple years ago and during our holiday visit that year we did all the touristy things, including heading out over the Bay Bridge. Here's an article you might enjoy that address the corrosion problems of the bridge: www.sacbee.com/2013/05/18/5431401/corros...-new-bay-bridge.html
So 'rusty' was a completely appropriate word to describe the condition of this bridge. And supports the direction and flow of this thread. The user who used that word wasn't the disruptor of the flow of this thread Don't mean to point fingers No hard feelings, just thought in this example things were fine and should have been left alone.
Without turning this thread away from its purpose, I still need to point out that the fact that bridges need constant maintenance is not relevant to the story we are attempting to move along the thread, which, a cursory reading would reveal, has more to do with the photographing of an interesting landscape by some adventurous photographers than the required frequency of primer coating on the bridge. And, if you think that this supports the direction and flow of this thread, perhaps you haven't read much of it yourself. As you say, no hard feelings, no feelings of any kind, really.

The fact that the bridge is under construction or in need of it only came up because you questioned "had I seen the bridge". Using the word "Rusty" to describe the bridge is no different than saying the "Rusty" nail or the "rusty" car... it's a word that paints a picture.
