How do you feel about traveling with Ebola epidemic not under control?

I guess it doesn't help to be constantly reading the tabloids about this.  But you can't help to think, or re-think about how bad do you really want to travel these days.  You hear about people traveling while they have the Ebola virus, doctors coming back from Africa with the virus.  When you think about it, who knows where people are coming and going from after contact with this.

We now know it has spread from Africa into USA, Europe and they still don't have this under control.

We have a trip planed to Europe in February and honestly I'm thinking about pulling the plug on that.  When we were planning this trip, I had been trying to talk my wife into taking a safari in Africa.  So of course now, all I keep hearing is "I told you so".  (like she knew ahead of time)

Really though, what are you feelings on traveling right now?

A vaccine is being developed more quickly than sometimes it's been possible to do, but I think I read/heard it would be maybe January? before it would be ready and made available in countries where the outbreak has been so widespread. I'm not sure of the timeframe but I wouldn't expect by February that it would be totally under control by then.

Personally I'd probably be changing plans for a trip that soon and go someplace that wouldn't mean overseas travel for now. Although it might be safe enough for most people, there really hasn't been a large number of cases yet of someone being exposed, and some of the cases have been among medical staff who treated a patient who'd contracted the virus.

It's probably actually a fairly small percentage considering how many people probably travel by plane on any given day. There's an international airport that has flight paths over where I used to work and sometimes driving home on the interstate I'd see the planes stacking up waiting to land, so there are a lot of flights just out of this one airport every weekday. Hard to tell how many more cases of the virus in this country may happen in the next couple of months.

It depends an where. Also, I don't expect anything in the vaccine department, its all propaganda. They have handled this whole 0bola thing stupidly as I see it.

Why so serious?

Where I live, if someone finds a dead bird on the ground, the environmental health and safety department will disinfect the area and take the bird away to test for bird flu.  Also, I was in Hong Kong during SARS.

Basically, what you guys are getting now is pretty much nothing.

7 people or so out of 316.1 million AND you guys live fairly far apart from each other (by Hong Kong standards).  You have more chance of dying from your ceiling collapsing.

Sure, don't go to West Africa or whatever, but apart from that it's not much of an issue.  Even then, I think the reason a lot die in West Africa because of the lack of proper medical care and unsanitary conditions.

Vaccine is the same as a cure.  It's preventative. They could reasonably produce a vaccine.  Then distributing it to people in West Africa would be the issue.

They should SERIOUSLY ask Bill Gates to fund it.  HE likes to fund that sort of thing.

Bill gates did fund $50 million and his partner kicked in another $100 million.  Then the Zuck tossed in $25 million.
