If you aren't a professional photographer, figuring out how to take photos like the one above can be a bit of a daunting task.

There's a lot that goes into creating a beautiful, glamorous portrait, that's for sure.

But you have to start somewhere, right?

These three simple tips will help you spice up the visual appeal of your portraits and create something much more glamorous.

Editor's Tip: The photos used as examples in this article are thanks to Sew Trendy Fashion & Accessories. If you're looking for glamorous wardrobes, props, and accessories for women, girls, young ladies, and expecting mothers, find everything you need here.

Add Tasteful Props

Vita Podolyan

My guess is that you have a horrifying portrait of yourself as a teenager sporting some kind of prop (a poster of your favorite band, perhaps?) that not only dates the photo, but makes you look ridiculous as well.

Props aren't a bad thing in photography - unless it's something that's wacky, wild, crazy, or easily outdated.

Instead, when creating a portrait - especially one with a glamorous look - the focus of your attention should be on props that are timeless and classic, like the floral arrangement in the image above.

Flowers are an ideal complement for a female portrait. That's especially true if they coordinate so well with the surroundings and the subject's wardrobe.

Editor's Tip: Like the look in the photo above? Get the Colbie Gown in any of about two dozens colors.

Another option to consider for feminine portrait props is a beautiful floral crown, like the one shown in the photo above.

Again, notice how the flowers work seamlessly with the subject matter and the color scheme in the image.

That helps the flowers integrate into the shot, becoming a tasteful addition to the image rather than a distraction that so many props seem to become.

The goal when using props is to add visual interest to the image. In this case, you can see how that can be done to perfection!

Select a Perfect Location

A great portrait can be taken just about anywhere.

But if you want to create something glamorous, you have to think of the kind of location for the shoot that will help you portray that vibe.

In the image above, the ornate background screams of glamor.

The colors, textures, and shapes have a classic look, and the way that those details are lit, giving some of the edges of the sculptured wall brightness and darkness only amplify the glamor of the image.

Editor's Tip: Fit the background you use to the wardrobe the model is wearing. In this case, the fitted lace Catherine Gown works gorgeously for the shot.

Add Glam With the Wardrobe

One of your best tools to use to create a glamorous portrait is to outfit your model with clothes that are gorgeous, sophisticated, and, well, glamorous!

The portrait above is, in my opinion, the most glamorous one in this article. Yet it's also the simplest.

There's a plain white background, no props, and nice, even lighting.

But because the gown is such a rich color, hugs the model's body, and cascades downward in an elegant train at the model's feet, it turns this otherwise simple photo into a jaw-droppingly beautiful photo.

Editor's Tip: The gown featured in the image above, "La Vie est Belle," is a droop-back velvet gown that will make any woman feel like she belongs on the cover of Vogue. Get this same gown right here.

What makes clothing glamorous isn't just the fit and the material.

Instead, the cut of the dress makes a difference as well.

In the previous example, the slim fit of the dress gives it a glamorous and sexy look, even though it covers the model's shoulders.

But in this example, the off-the-shoulder look and ruffled top give the gown added appeal.

In both of these examples, notice how the colors are deep and saturated. This brings the eye straight to the model and gives the shot a strong subject.
