As photography has become increasingly popular over the last ten years, camera sales have skyrocketed. Ten years ago, a compact camera would have set you back hundreds of dollars, while DSLRs were available only for thousands of dollars. These gaps have disappeared from the market and today, a lot more people can afford DSLRs. So currently, theses cameras are being used to satisfy the needs of suburban families on their vacations, as well as the high level demands of professionals and their clients.
But this huge popularity of DSLRs, while boosting sales, has done a bit of injustice to this category of cameras. Amateurs often buy DSLRs because of their image quality and sometimes because they want to learn a little more about photography. Many times however, these cameras end up being used as very expensive point and shoots, and I think you will agree that their potential is being wasted.
I found this video from the folks at B&H featuring Jeff Cable that I believe should be seen by all amateurs and DSLR owners who haven't yet fully explored their DSLRs. It's a little over one hour long, but believe me, it is well worth your time.
