The tripod is a piece of equipment that I believe every photographer should own, regardless of what kind of work he does. The main reason for that is simply that you never know when you're going to need it . Obviously, there are lot more advantages to using a tripod, including the fact that is slows you down and makes you think twice before pressing the shutter release.

With that said, we thought it would be interesting to look at the best tripods of the passing year. Without further ado, these are our ten favorite tripods of 2014.

10. Ravelli APGL4

If you want a decent aluminum tripod with an interesting Pistol Grip, this model might be right for you. It might not be anything spectacular, but it is a very good quality tripod for what you pay.

1. Vanguard Abeo Plus 323CB

The number one tripod on our list has to be the Abeo 323CB. Together with the BBH-200 ball head, it is our recommendation for professionals and advanced amateurs. With features like the Quick Height Adjustment, it allows the photographer to position the camera along the vertical axis with minimum effort. An anti shock ring prevents the camera from sustaining any vibration damage, while the center column has an anti-spin design.

Its build quality, versatility and ultimately the ease of use make it our favorite tripod of 2014.
