6 Awesome DIY Photography Gifts for This Christmas

Christmas is closing in on us and what a special time it is! So far, we've put together a few lists with very cool items in all price ranges. Not surprisingly , they were pretty popular with a lot of photographers, as well as their spouses, friends and families.

But there is one niche that I might not have paid enough attention to. That is until now.

Most people settle for simply buying a gift. It's a lot easier and it can save you time. On the other hand, we're talking about photography, and even small gifts can be expensive. To keep it honest, I suck at crafts and turning ordinary stuff into something actually useful or good looking. The only do-it-yourself kind of work I know is how to turn a soda can into a squashed soda can. Nevertheless, I have some really talented friends who love to turn ordinary stuff into jewelry and other decorative objects.

So I asked myself how could I combine gift making with photography. And I came across a truly inspiring video that gave me the right ideas.

After seeing it, I felt like all this time I had all the necessary components lying around me. All I needed to do was combine them and turn them into awesome gifts.

That's how I learned you can print a photograph onto a piece of wood in your own home, without any kind of  fancy equipment. Or that you can customize a lamp using by your own photography.

I also find regular candles incredibly boring now. But you'll see for yourself what I'm talking about.

DIY gifts for photographers are a great idea. I'm sure many of your are going "doooh" right now, but have a little sympathy for folks who get there slower, like myself.

Sure, a portrait on wood won't stand a chance against a shiny new camera, but it will definitely have more personality. Photographers are ultimately creative people who understand and love the creative process. Anything they get for Christmas that has some kind of labor behind it will definitely be appreciated.
