With the introduction of the iPhone 4/4S, Apple advanced personal communication technology several leaps forward, but also upped the ante on digital photography capabilities in a smartphone. The phone’s 8-MB sensor and other enhancements strongly signaled a serious effort to compete with popular point-and-shoot cameras. It took the innovation of one of the oldest names in optics, however, to give every iPhone owner more options for shooting even better photos with their camera phones.

1. During early 2012, Schneider Optics introduced the first “interchangeable lenses” for the iPhone, the iPro wide-angle and iPro fisheye. Now, just a few months later, it has brought the iPro 2X Tele lens to the market. It is a fixed-focal length lens at the equivalent of a 60mm lens in 35mm format, or 84mm for video. iPhone users who like to photograph their family members and friends will be particularly drawn to the new iPro 2X Tele because it is the right focal length for great portraits. Schneider’s superior optical technology has eliminated any distortion or vignetting that is often evident on images from smartphone cameras.

2. Because Schneider Optics has been making some of the finest optical instruments in the world since 1913, it applied much of what it has learned and pioneered to the new iPro 2X Tele and the other iPro lenses. Schneider manufactures the lens case with high quality aluminum alloy and to exacting standards, many of which the company established for the optical industry. Each iPro lens housing is then anodized, so it is able to withstand daily use, and the full gamut of shooting environments, climates and situations. Schneider also uses only the highest grade of optical glass, which is ground and polished with extreme care and precision. The people at Schneider have also added multiple applications of anti-reflective coatings, which, like standard, high quality camera lenses, help to control flare.

3. When shooting with the new iPro 2X Tele lens, iPhone users will be able to do more with their digital photography. With a 31-degree field of view (23 degree for video), this lens gives photographers the opportunity to move closer to their subjects to reveal more detail and be more creative.

4. Like the wide-angle and fisheye lenses, the Schneider Optics iPro 2X Tele lens fastens to a bayonet mount that then is securely attached to the inside of the optional case, making for a very portable and compact package. The case also serves as a handle, and houses a ¼-20 screw connector to a tripod or monopod. To accommodate right- and left-handed photographers, the handle affixes to either side of the iPhone.
