Recently, Leica announced it would be releasing the D-LUX 6 , to follow in the footsteps of the D-LUX 5, and the V-LUX 4, a new 24x superzoom camera. The German camera manufacturer has confirmed that both the D-LUX 6 and V-LUX 4 will soon begin shipping in the United States, much to the delight of Leica enthusiasts. To whet your appetite for these amazing little cameras, let’s start by talking about the D-LUX 6.

Following in the footsteps of the D-LUX 5 , the new D-LUX 6 is a compact camera that is Leica’s improvement of the Panasonic Lumix DMC-LX7 . The D-LUX 6 has many key features of its Panasonic sibling including a 10.1-megapixel CMOS sensor and an ultra fast 24-90mm f/1.4-2.3 lens (the lens has an aperture ring). It also has the ability to record full HD movies at 60 frames per second (fps). The main ways the D-LUX 6 differs from the LX7 are mainly in cosmetic appearance and price, as the Leica is nearly double the price. Also, the D-LUX 6 comes bundled with a copy of Adobe Photoshop Lightroom 4 , for post-processing fun. To see some sample images taken with the D-LUX 6, click here . On the flip side, the brand new V-LUX 4 is a much larger camera that is similar in size and build to a small DSLR. Equipped with a rotating three-inch LCD monitor, this newer Leica definitely modernizes its classic, compact models. The V-LUX 4 has a 12-megapixel CMOS sensor, and it comes with an impressive 25-600mm zoom lens with a constant aperture of f/2.8, allowing for amazingly sharp images even at high ISO settings and at far distances. Similar to the D-LUX 6, the V-LUX 4 has the ability to record full HD video at 60 fps. With its compact, lightweight body and superior features, the V-LUX 4 will be an incredible camera for Leica enthusiasts. This item is currently available for pre-order at $899.00 .

Tell us what you think about these new Leica models. Would you buy the D-LUX 6 over the V-LUX 4? Would you go so far as to ditch your DSLR gear for a new Leica?
