My father is left handed and I would like to buy him a DSLR. Do any of the manufacturers make a nice comfortable left handed DSLR?

I am left handed and it doesnt make any difference, your father will have no problems using any camera on the market, trust me many famous people were or are left handed ( this does include Hitler of course) and I am sure some of them are left handed.

I never even though about that. But now that you mention it, I've never seen one. Really surprised there isn't one out there already!

I'm sure he would love a DSLR though, even if it wasn't specifically for a lefty.

Trust me... A lefty can adapt faster to a right handed camera than a righty could to a LH version.

We had a similar problem in firearms. Mostly the 1911 models came in RH set up only. What the lefties did was design a ambi version that could be operated easily with either hand. While I would not buy a left handed version for myself I would like to try a true ambi with all controls mirrored on the other side.

Yes, by the way, I am a leftie... most of the time! :catfight:

Ken Rockwell has one and his D1H has elephant phallus skin for a grip.

"I had a veterinarian friend in Africa who specializes in elephant care send me some phallus hide from the Loxodonta Africana (known for its flexibility and grip when wet) which I then had a local taxidermist apply to my camera in place of the original rubber. It took a lot of paperwork with the U.S. Dept. of Fish and Game but at least it doesn't peel off on my D1H as the rubber does." -Ken Rockwell
