help with lens

Not sure where to put this question, since there is no Tamron section.

I was giving a Tamron 55-200mm lens. I'm new to all this and wondering if anyone has used one before and can tell me their opinion on it. Also can I use it on my Nikon D40?

Well I know nothing about the lens itself, but I do think Tamron works with Nikon. Snap it on the camera and find out.

Thanks, well I can't physically put it on my camera just yet. I don't have it,..yet. A friend's father passed away and I was asked if I wanted the lens. I said sure, because well it's a free lens, but I know nothing about it or if my camera can even use it.

I just checked the above, at photo.net for info on this lens.
Usually lens are bought for Nikon, Canon etc because they have different mounts. So you will need to know if it can go on a NIkon, I think you can buy adapters for mounting too.

I have the Tamron 18-270 zoom. I just love it. Mine fits on a Canon. If the lens is fitted for a Nikon you should be good to go. Tamron is one of our sponsors and makes a fine inexpensive alternative lens. www.tamron-usa.com/lenses/prod/18270_vcp...008&utm_term=banners

Jan is right. Tamron, Sigma and others make lenses for most major camera manufacturers with different mounts for each. It has to have a Nikon mount to work with your D40.

Plus, the D40 does NOT have a built in focus motor, so the lens needs to have its own or you will need to focus manually.

Matthew :)
