how many feet can 55-200 go? im planing on going to wannacut lake this summer and i want to take a picture of a eagle across the lake so i wanted to see how far will 55-200 go?

Not far enough....Most birding lenses are 300mm minimum & that's normally using a 300mm with a teleconverter...The longer the better, but you'll have to pay a premium price for that length (more than most amateurs can afford)...Might pay to rent a longer lens for a week.

They are roughly the size of a baseball ..... I think I can throw a baseball 45-50 yards. My guess is 150 feet. lol.

Just kidding, Jennifer has one and it gets used....focuses pretty fast too.

do you think bestbuy would have one that is 300mm? i really want to know what it feel like to take a picture of a eagle without geting 50 feet away from it. last year i took a picture of a eagle and i was to far away i think. which it is still biteing me lol. here is the picture of me taking the picture of the eagle that is in the tree of last year only 50 feet away and i zoom it to a 5 and it didnt work

Best Buy have a Nikkor lens 70-300mm VR its about 600 bucks thats the on I have I like it. If you bring your camera with you thay will let you try it out. Try bhphotovideo.com the prices are beter.

With that lense I can hand hold it take a photo at 300mm with a shuter speed as lo as 1/20 and have it come out fairly sharp. So you should be ok o your boat during the day. This photo was taken with the same lense at 300mm f20 - 1/25 shuter speed no tripod its fairly sharp.
