If you are 50 ft away from an eagle, then its probably looking at you and thinking mmmmm lunch, joking aside, are you thinking of getting a zoom lens with your new camera, if so a 70mm-200mm would be fine for that distance, I have a 24mm-200mm that is a good lens, its sigma so cheaper than geting a Nikkor lens, go into a store and ask if you can try a lens out, just pretend you are buying one, tell them what camera you have and are interested in testing a few lenses, over here in the UK thats the done thing.

I agree with photobud. 50ft away from an eagle...it's lunch time.

Buy yourself a lens range anywhere from 70-300mm.

70-300 lenses are sold at best buy. When you get to best buy, ask if you can put the 70-300mm on a camera and check out it's zoom. Find a subject in the store on the other side of the room and zoom in on it. See how you like it.

Good price on that lens, but in general the lens is a cheap lens. From Nikon's website the price list for that lens is $249.95. Keep in mind, the cheaper the lens, the cheaper the glass. Poor quality photos. Very few people can afford the real expensive top of the line lenses. But us average people can afford the middle ground. Which is still better then the very cheap lenses.

Such as, there is a 70-200mm f2.8 VR II (less zoom range) but it's price on Nikon's site is $2399.95
