How to take awesome pics.

I have a Canon powershot and I can not afford to upgrade to a bigger, badder camera. So how can I take awesome pictures. Like in magazines, they all look bright, colors popping etc.. Is it the camera or the lens the photographer uses? Is it software? How do they do it? I could only dream to take those kind of pictures.

You can take awesome pictures with the camera you have.
First, learn your camera. ISO, shutter, aperture
Learn photography. Study it.
Study other photographers work.
Lighting is the key in awesome photos that you see in the magazines.
Once you understand photography, then get yourself a photo editing software. If you do not have the money for photoshop, lightroom or elements. You can use gimp. Only enhance the photo, do not ruin it.

So many people turn what can be a good photo into crap with "photoshopping".
