I need help to decide to choose between these.
Nikon Coolpix P500 (12.1 MP, OpZoom-36x, Rs. 20950), Fujifilm FinePix HS20EXR(16 MP, Opz: 30x, Rs. 23000) , Canon PowerShot SX30 IS 14.1 MP, OpZ: 35x,Rs. 24245), Sony DSC-HX100V(16.2 MP, OpZ:30x,GPS Rs. 22500), .. Price is an Imp consideration. I am not a photographer, but a traveller who like to keep memories alive..I just want to upgrade to a point and shoot high zoom camera since i have no idea about SLRs..Also can anyone tell me if I can adjust the aperture and shutter speed in these point and shoot as an when I want.

Well all the cameras you listed are good cameras, they will all do what you want. What you should do, is go to a store that sells all those cameras, like Best Buy or any other retail store. And try each camera. You should buy a camera you are comfortable using. Browse through the menu, take some pictures etc.. Play around with it.

I agree - give em a test drive then take one home.

A friend just bought the Canon PowerShot SX30 IS.
I find the some 840mm a bit too much. Way too much in fact.
I have the (previous version) SX20 as a second camera and the
560mm is just right. Any more is ridiculousness .... lol.
(also includes macro & super macro)

If you can find the SX20 (old stock by now so would be a good price)
go for it over the SX30. A perfect travel cam.
Or, if it's Canon your after (and price range) go for the Rebel T3
with (example) 18-250mm zoom.

Happy trails

:agree: I also agree about giving all cameras a test drive. As nice as it is to hear opinions from us, there are a few who will be bias to certain brands. There will always be a debate between Nikon and Canon. So go check them out and also ignore the sales person opinions on the brands (listen to the facts, ignore the opinions) and based your choice on the one you enjoy using.

Thank you for the reply. Can you advise if I can use these Point & Shoot to take pics of waterfalls with the silken effect obtained by reducing the shutter speed or light paintings of vehicles on road.:)

All of the cameras you have listed allow you to set up in Manual Mode and adjust the Shutter and Aperture to silkify a waterfall.
If you are looking for a P&S that has longer shutter time, you might look for a NOS Olympus SP 590UZ. This camera has a Bulb setting of up to 8 minutes.
