Difference between semi-pro and entry-level cameras?

Some camera retailers use these terms often and I was looking at some of the specs of these newer cameras and wondering if there is any merit to these terms any longer? For example, if you look at some of Canon and Nikon's latest cameras, many of these have much more to talk about then some of the "pro" level cameras had a year or two ago. I don't think people are becoming smarter entry level photographers. So are these just a marketing term or... ?

Well the difference has always been the build quality and the feature sets. Entry Level cameras are plastic, the Pro/Prosumer level cameras are Magnesium. While the entry level does have some good features in the basic area, they manufacturer castrate them in some way performance wise when it comes to what you can do with them. So yes there is still a difference in the levels, but the term Prosumer is a marketing thing.

Price.

IMHO there's no such thing as a "semi-pro" camera. If you can do paid work with a camera then that's your pro camera.

It's all about what you can afford and which features you need.

There is a sort of shuffle effect, due to staggered release dates. The new Canon T4i is close to matching the old 60D. But as soon as the 70D(?) is released, the entry vs semi-pro gap will be restored.
