Photography Courses

I am looking into taking some photography courses. I have been reading up on the New York Institute of Photography. It is cheaper than my local community college. Plus it's an online program. They are nationally accredited as an continuing education course. Is there anyone here that have studied photography through them? I need a little more info from students.

I have a friend who went through their program and he loved the course. Honestly I'm not sure if they are accredited. I would phone them up. Are you looking for a at home program?

I think their a good bet, they've been around for something like 100+ years. I'm guessing they must be close to the oldest photo school.

NYIP is accredited for distance learning (home schooling) and I think you receive a certificate for a course being completed. I've read mixed reviews about them and in the past I think they were promoting that they gave degrees when they weren't issuing actual associate or bachelor's degrees; however they seem to have since made changes with that. For online course work which of course would be written work, I'd try reading thru their information or articles by their instructors and see what it's like.

I guess there could be advantages either way in taking coursework online or thru community ed classes, or even some of each. You could work online on your own schedule, or taking classes in person could include more demonstration and hands-on lessons. I've done both and either could be good. What works best for you could depend on what aspects of photography you want to learn.

I'd send for information - and if they ask for an email address instead of providing info. on their website, which I had happen with someplace that was related to my profession not photography - I'd be careful and check it out thoroughly; unfortunately there seem to be disreputable websites for just about anything. I'd spend some time reading up on any specific schools you're considering.
