Taking a photo of the moon with a 50mm lens

So the 50mm is suppose to be like looking with our eyes right? How come when I take a photo of the moon that it still looks so small?

No, that's not right. A 50mm lens is considered to be a "normal" lens for the 35mm format. Normal means a lens that reproduces a field of view that generally looks natural. That does not mean that the view is the same as "looking with our eyes." It just means that the field of view of 27º vertical x 39º horizontal (1) is very close to the 35mm frame dimensions of 24mm x 36mm), and (2) looks "natural."

Because it's about 239,000 miles away. :)

I have used a 300mm lens, tripod than crop

You will not be judged as a photographer by the pictures you take, but by the pictures you show.

I wish I had the spare $$ to afford a big lens to get close enough to the moon. Really I would love a telescope

I just saw an 8" Celestron sell for $752 two weeks ago, that's a nearly $3000 telescope. Looked like someone got an amazing deal.

Use a 300mm lens or even longer. Tripod! Take a lot of shots.
