Adding signature to photo, left or right bottom?

I have seen photos and canvas prints signed I would guess about 80% of the time in the right corner vs left.  Is there any right or wrong to this? Or is this more of a preference of the photographer?

There have been discussions about signing on here before. For a painting, wherever the artist feels like it.

For a photo, not on the photo. The consensus seems to be on the mat, or on the back.  As for right or left, most folks are right handed, which implies on the right.

Are you asking about a 'signature'?
Or a 'watermark'?

Signatures (something you do with your hand and a writing implement) are typically done on the mat.
Lower right. In pencil.

Watermarks, like a copyright notice, or a logo, are also, typically, placed in the lower right OF THE PRINT, but should be placed as to not cover the subject of the image. Nor be covered by any matting. I've seen them in all corners, and sometimes well below the top edge in an area of sky.

There's no right or wrong. Artistic preference.

I sign on the photo, small, dark area. Why? Someone decided that the signature distracts from the image and had it covered with the framing. Now i treat my photos like art. 1st Choice bottom right. then bottom left, then vertical on the sides.

2. Watermark: Wherever it looks right in the composition. Not where it can be cropped off and the image still be illegally used.
