Importance of memory card speed?

Okay, most likely a :pinch:  question.  But I'll ask any way.  Card speed is just impacting download time right?  Are there any other benefits/reasons to spend a grip more for faster memory cards?

"A grip more"? Let's see, where are you from? ;)

The speed rating of the card is primarily the read speed, which means that, yes, it applies to off-loading the images. What they don't rate is the write speed, and for cameras that is much more important. The variances in read times are a nit that causes plenty of unnecessary knicker-twisting among the geeks.

Definitely research card performance, but note the write speeds when evaluating cards. That's what matters. And not all Samsung cards win that race.

I don't understand the "grip" statement.  I'll just confirm what Mr. Hook mentioned already, it's all about the read/write speed.  Are you fussing with video much?

To me, write speed is more important than upload speed. I shoot wildlife, (lots of burst) and star trails, (need fast buffer off load between shots), but I don't care too much how fast the images get from card to computer....;)

Why so serious?

In keeping with my propensity for wordiness:

"Grip" means "a bunch", and is an English term. Hence my remark about the origin of the OP.

"Grip" was originated by hustlers as to how much money would fit between there thumb and index finger.

Write speed is critical as long as your camera has sufficient buffer and speed. Does not matter what the write speed is if the camera's buffer can not process it. It is also important for video recording.

Shoot, learn and share. It will make you a better photographer.
