Yes, very good school.  Another to consider is Hallmart.

Canon EOS 5D Mark II, 17-40mmL, 24-105mmL, 100-400mmL, 300mm f/4L IS, Sigma 12-24mm, 430EX, Extension tubes

There are different types of accreditation. Many of the photography schools are either accredited as a career or vocational/tech school, or for distance learning, meaning you're not on campus you're taking classes by mail or online.

Brooks is a for profit school - it's a business, not a university. I think California and New York state have schools that offer what they call degrees but they aren't university degrees - I don't think they're valid in other states. (I'm not sure what they're good for.)

So it has an accreditation for adult learning, but is a for-profit business and does not have the same accreditation as a university.

I just checked and the school had been sold by the son of the school's founder in the 90's. I hadn't realized til I looked it up that it was sold again last summer - to a company called Gphomestay which finds homes for international students studying in the US.

Looks like they brought in somebody new to run Brooks.

Good point by Sharon on accreditation.  For example, the University of Arizona School of Art offers a Masters degree than includes work with photography -

art.arizona.edu/students/programs-of-study/photography

Which is most certainly "accreditation", but may or may not take the same path as Brooks.  And may or may not be held in the same esteem by major photography companies.

Just looking, didn't realize Brooks went that far back.  Interesting.

I know a few who have attended, they are happy, 2 of which are doing very well.  The other gal went back to corporate America after having a child.

Hallmart is also 4X cost of Brooks

Hallmark same kind of thing, a for profit school - a business. Accreditation is as a career school.

With the cost of these for profit schools, you could instead try your local career and tech schools. Many offer courses in digital photography and probably are a reasonable expense for the same type coursework and accreditation.

Book learning & "hands on experience" are two different animals. If I were hiring, I'd opt for the latter.... BTW, I did the mail thing decades ago with the "Modern School of Photography" . Waste of money in my opinion...

My thinking is along the same lines.  For a self employed photographer a BA in Marketing would likely be more beneficial.  At least if the plunge into photography turned out to be a dead end you would still have the BA for other jobs.

I do enjoy low budget workshops by photographers.  But I no longer have the patience for long class hours.
