New Camera, No Clue.

I posted a few photos on my profile, I will post them here as well.   Just looking for opinions, since using my new camera.  Like I said I am no photographer.  I've used my iPhone for the past several years for photos.

That would have been the Nikon 105mm f/2.8 macro. The magnification amount doesn't seem like I used a tube, and I don't recall having any when this was taken. So I'll just go with the lens alone. On a crop sensor body, BTW.

Ah. These were large red ants (I live in the southwest) about a half-inch long. Lots to work with. Apologies for not clarifying.

For someone who has only shot with a camera phone ...these are quite good.  Your framing, subject placement, shooting at the same level as the subject and capturing the eye contact of the pooch are all well executed, well beyond the skill level of a beginner.

There are photographs everywhere. It is the call of photographers to see and capture those images.

Yes! She needs her clothes! There was a high of 70 today! We froze!!! Joking aside, she loves her "christmas clothes". Keeps her warm when we turn the AC down at night.

Thank you Gary.  I always pay close attention to the backgrounds and focus mainly on one subject.

Here are a couple I took with my Macro. Still trying to get the hang of it. Everything always comes out blurrier than it shows up on my view.

The problem with macro work is that the depth of field is really shallow. Like, less than 1/4" using a 105mm lens at f/16 at 1 foot away. It gets worse if you open the aperture, or move closer (although most lenses have a near-focus distance of 9" or so).

So you must carefully choose your focus point, or look into focus stacking.

Darn physics.

Still trying my best with moving subjects.   Not the best work.  Haven't started any type of photo stacking, but I checked it out and I see the benefits for sure.
I get REALLY close to things, so I need to find a way to get the pictures i was from a little further away.
